Will Warren Leads Yankees to 6-2 Victory Over Twins, Ends Pitching Drought

New York Yankees pitcher Will Warren delivered a strong outing on Monday night, allowing just three hits and two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 6-2 win against the Minnesota Twins. Warren became the first Yankees starter in a month to record an out in the seventh inning.

Warren (7-5) struck out seven batters and issued no walks, though he gave up home runs to Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach. Relievers Luke Weaver and David Bednar closed out the game, securing New York’s 23rd win in their last 30 regular-season matchups against Minnesota.

This victory marked the Yankees’ first series opener win since the All-Star break. The last Yankees pitcher to reach the seventh inning was Carlos Rodón, who threw eight innings against the Chicago Cubs on July 11.

On offense, Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, and Ben Rice all hit homers off Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews (3-4). Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a solo home run in the eighth inning, while Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge contributed RBI singles in the seventh.

Warren carried a shutout into the fifth inning until Buxton’s home run. He was one strike away from completing the seventh inning when Larnach homered to extend the Twins’ scoring.

Bellinger’s first-inning homer snapped a 12-game homerless streak. Stanton and Rice hit back-to-back homers in the third inning, the Yankees’ eighth set of consecutive homers this season.

Matthews allowed three runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out nine and matching his career high by giving up three home runs.
