Oblique Seville Wins Jamaican 100m Title with World-Leading Time

Oblique Seville delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Jamaican Athletics Championships, winning the men’s 100 metres title with a world-leading time of 9.82 seconds at Kingston’s National Stadium on Friday.

The 25-year-old sprinter, who is the reigning world champion in the event, moved to the top of the global rankings this season, surpassing the previous world-leading mark of 9.84 seconds.

Seville produced a strong race from start to finish, pulling away from the field and securing the national title in front of a home crowd.

Gary Card finished second in 9.93 seconds, delivering one of the standout performances of the competition. The young sprinter edged out Ackeem Blake, who placed third with a season-best time of 9.94 seconds.

Nishion Ebanks finished fourth in 9.99 seconds, making it four athletes in the final to break the 10-second barrier.

Defending champion Kishane Thompson did not compete in this year’s championships. Thompson captured the title in 2025 with a time of 9.75 seconds.

With the national championships concluded, Seville will now turn his attention to upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the World Ultimate Athletics Championships in Budapest.

His latest performance further strengthens his position as one of the leading sprinters in the world heading into the remainder of the season.
