Real Madrid Set for LaLiga Opener Against Elche in 2025-26 Season

Real Madrid will begin their 2025-26 LaLiga campaign at home against Elche at the Santiago Bernabéu, marking their first home opener since 2018. This season’s kick-off holds extra significance as it’s the first time in six years that Real Madrid start at home, after playing away for the past seasons. Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, the team aims to extend their impressive unbeaten streak on Matchday 1, which dates back to the 2008-09 season.

Historic Unbeaten Streak Continues

Real Madrid have not lost their LaLiga opener in 17 years, with their last defeat occurring on August 31, 2008, at Riazor against Deportivo La Coruña. The match saw Mista open the scoring before Van Nistelrooy equalized. However, Alberto Lopo secured the win for Deportivo with a late header. Since then, Real Madrid have maintained an unbeaten streak on the opening day of the season.

Rare Opening Day Losses

In the 21st century, Real Madrid‘s opening day record has been nearly flawless. Their only other losses in the millennium came in 2001-02 at Mestalla against Valencia. Miguel Ángel Angulo scored the only goal that day, marking Zinedine Zidane’s debut with the club. That match also saw Luis Figo sent off, but it remains one of the few blemishes in the club’s opening day history.

Strong Start in 2025-26

With Xabi Alonso at the helm, Real Madrid will be looking to extend their impressive run and make a strong start to the new season. The match against Elche is crucial for the team, as they aim to build on their legacy and push for another successful LaLiga campaign.

Key Match:

  • Date: 23 November 2025

  • Venue: Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid

  • Opponent: Elche
