Punjab Orders Private Hospitals to Install CCTV for Improved Oversight
August 23, 2025
The Punjab government has moved to strengthen monitoring of private healthcare facilities across the province. In a new directive, the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has instructed all private hospitals to install CCTV cameras in key areas of their premises.
According to the circular, surveillance cameras must be placed in emergency rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), children’s nurseries, hospital entrances and exits, and waiting areas. The step is aimed at improving security and ensuring better oversight of patient care and hospital operations.
The PHC has further directed that all hospitals store CCTV recordings for at least 40 days. The commission emphasized that footage will only be accessed for legal or regulatory purposes and stressed that patient privacy must remain protected during installation and use of monitoring systems.
This move reflects the provincial government’s broader effort to enhance transparency, accountability, and safety within the private healthcare sector.
