Punjab Government Announces Paid Internships for Nursing Graduates
The Punjab government has introduced a new policy to support nursing graduates by offering structured internship opportunities with financial benefits.
Under the plan, graduates holding a BSN nursing degree will receive a monthly stipend equal to the basic salary of a charge nurse during their mandatory one-year internship. The stipend will be disbursed through the Punjab Health Foundation.
📌 Key Highlights of the Policy
-
Paid Internship: Nursing graduates will now be financially supported while gaining practical experience.
-
Eligibility: Priority will be given to graduates of government nursing colleges affiliated with teaching hospitals. If slots remain, students from other government nursing colleges will also be considered.
-
Duration & Training: The internship will last one year, covering various hospital departments to ensure hands-on clinical exposure.
-
Mandatory Requirement: The internship is now compulsory, ensuring that all graduates gain essential skills before entering professional practice.
Officials say this initiative will strengthen the healthcare system, improve the quality of nursing care, and make the transition from academics to professional work smoother for graduates.
With this decision, Punjab has taken a significant step toward empowering nursing professionals while addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare workers.
