Punjab Empowers DCs to Close Schools in Flood-Hit Areas

The Punjab Education Department has issued a notification giving deputy commissioners across the province authority to close schools in districts affected by floods.
According to the official notification, deputy commissioners can declare holidays in educational institutions depending on the local flood situation. In Sargodha’s Kot Momin tehsil, schools have already been shut for seven days, with closures extended until September 2.
Meanwhile, several colleges in flood-affected areas of Lahore division have also suspended classes. The Director of Colleges announced holidays in 16 institutions. In Nankana Sahib, schools in Mandi Faizabad and Syedwala will remain closed for two days, while in Kasur, colleges in Kanganpur have also been directed to observe holidays.

In addition, the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) postponed all written exams scheduled for August 30 and 31 due to the ongoing flood emergency. Chairman Muhammad Abdul Aziz chaired the meeting and confirmed the decision.
The provincial government stated that these measures are aimed at ensuring public safety and providing shelter to displaced families who are currently relying on school buildings for temporary accommodation.
