Indian Farmer Shocked as Hen Lays Rare c
Karnataka, India: A farmer was left astonished when one of his hens laid a rare blue-colored egg, an occurrence that has sparked curiosity and drawn the attention of both villagers and veterinary experts.
A Rare Discovery
The unusual egg was found by Syed Noor, who bought the hen from a local trader two years ago for just ₹20. Noor explained that all of his ten hens are given the same diet and typically lay white or cream-colored eggs.
“This is the first time I’ve seen a blue egg,” Noor shared, adding that he has kept the egg safely ever since its discovery.
As the news spread, locals began visiting Noor’s home to catch a glimpse of the rare egg.
Experts Weigh In
Veterinary experts expressed equal surprise. Dr. Ashok, Assistant Director at the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, explained that while hens may occasionally lay greenish or tinted eggs, a completely blue egg is extremely rare.
He noted that the phenomenon could be linked to biliverdin, a natural pigment that sometimes affects eggshell color.
Dr. Raghu Nayak, another veterinary officer, suggested possible causes such as genetic mutations, pigment variations, or dietary factors.
Community Reactions
Hafeez, a friend of Noor, confirmed that the hen had always laid white eggs until just two days earlier.
“Its color is shocking. I’ve never seen or even heard of a blue egg before,” he remarked.
Blue Eggs Around the World
Globally, blue eggs are commonly associated with specific breeds such as the Araucana chicken from Chile and the Whiting True Blue, a hybrid developed in the United States during the 1990s.
Growing Attention
Noor photographed the egg, and the story has since been covered by local media, further fueling public interest in the rare phenomenon.
