Solar Panels Worth Rs 6.5 Million Stolen from 50 Schools in Rajanpur
An audit report presented to the Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee-III has revealed that solar panels worth over Rs 6.5 million were stolen from 50 government schools in Rajanpur district during 2022–23.
Committee’s Concerns
Lawmakers expressed serious concern over the thefts, noting that similar incidents may have occurred in other districts. The committee directed police to launch thorough investigations across Punjab and ensure accountability.
Committee member Tanveer Aslam Malik urged district police officers in affected areas to receive strict instructions and called for a complete record of schools targeted. He also pressed for clarification on whether any stolen equipment had been recovered.
Education Department Response
Officials from the Education Department confirmed that FIRs had been registered, while the Audit Department criticized local authorities for failing to provide adequate security for the installations.
