Auqaf Department Takes Disciplinary Action Following Inquiry at Lahore Shrine

The Auqaf Department has taken disciplinary action against several former officials posted at the shrine of Hazrat Bibi Pak Daman in Lahore following the completion of an internal inquiry into administrative and financial irregularities.

According to the department, the investigation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and financial oversight within Auqaf-managed institutions.

The inquiry was launched on the directions of the Auqaf Board and examined the management of donations and related administrative procedures at the shrine.

Auqaf Secretary Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, who also serves as Chief Administrator Auqaf, approved disciplinary measures under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act, 2006.

As part of the action, former shrine manager Zahid Iqbal received a major penalty, including the forfeiture of five years of past service. The department also ordered the recovery of Rs. 5.387 million, citing findings related to administrative negligence, income-record concerns, and failure to conduct required inspections.

Former senior clerk and accountant Imtiaz Hussain was issued a minor penalty involving the withholding of annual increments for three years. The department stated that the action was based on findings related to record-keeping deficiencies, incomplete documentation, and inadequate reporting of financial matters.

The inquiry also reviewed the cases of former gatekeeper Mohsin Shah and former caretaker Zafar Iqbal. According to the department, allegations of financial misconduct against the two officials could not be legally substantiated during the investigation.

However, departmental authorities have placed administrative restrictions on future assignments for all officials involved. These restrictions prevent them from being posted to positions involving cash handling, donation collection, or revenue-related field duties.

Officials said the measures are part of broader efforts to improve governance standards and strengthen public confidence in the management of religious and charitable institutions.
