Exotic Zoo Animal Dies While Being Shifted From Karachi to Lahore

Giraffes Arrive at Lahore Safari Park and Zoo – One Dies During Transport

A batch of 12 giraffes imported from South Africa has reached Lahore for the Safari Park and Lahore Zoo, officials confirmed on Wednesday. Unfortunately, one giraffe died and another was injured during transportation from Karachi to Lahore.

According to the Safari Zoo administration, the animals were first flown into Karachi and then shifted by road to Lahore Safari Park. Out of the 12 giraffes, nine are reserved for the Safari Park, while three will be housed at Lahore Zoo.

The newly arrived giraffes will remain in quarantine for 15 to 30 days, during which veterinary teams will closely monitor their health before moving them into specially prepared enclosures.

Government’s Initiative for Wildlife Conservation

The Punjab government allocated Rs. 135 million for this project as part of its efforts to expand wildlife facilities in the province. This is the second major initiative in recent years — in 2018, three giraffes were also imported from South Africa for Lahore Zoo.

Meanwhile, the Wildlife Department has shared that it is also working on plans to bring in other large animals, including elephants, for the Safari Park in the future.
