Security Forces Kill 17 Militants in Lakki Marwat Operation
Security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the night between Friday and Saturday, resulting in the killing of 17 militants, the military’s media wing reported.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched after reports of militant presence in the area. Troops engaged the hideout, leading to the deaths of the suspects. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered.
The ISPR said the militants were involved in multiple attacks targeting security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and civilians. A sanitisation operation is now underway to clear the area of any remaining threats.

President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the security forces on the successful operation, paying tribute to their sacrifices and efforts in combating militancy.
In his statement, he said eliminating militant groups and their networks is essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the country. He also reaffirmed that the nation stands united with its armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
Background
Pakistan has seen a rise in militant attacks in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In November 2022, the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire agreement with the government, after which attacks against security forces and police escalated.
In August this year, militants carried out a series of attacks in Lakki Marwat, which left three soldiers and a woman dead, while three others, including two soldiers, were injured.
