Search Continues for Missing Crew as More Wreckage of K2 Airways Cargo Plane Recovered
The Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) has confirmed that search and rescue efforts are continuing for the crew of the K2 Airways cargo aircraft that crashed into the Arabian Sea, while additional debris from the aircraft has been recovered.
According to the PAA, the ongoing operation is being carried out jointly by the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, with both air and sea resources deployed to locate the missing crew members.
Recovery Operation Underway
In an official statement, the aviation authority said teams involved in the operation have recovered more parts of the aircraft from the crash site.
The newly recovered wreckage will be examined as part of the official investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Authorities said search operations remain active and further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
Aircraft Lost Contact Over the Arabian Sea
The K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft was flying from Sharjah to Karachi when it disappeared from radar on Tuesday night while approaching Pakistani airspace over the Arabian Sea.
Before communication was lost, the flight crew reportedly informed air traffic controllers about a navigation-related issue and requested assistance.
Five people were on board the aircraft, including two pilots, two engineers, and one support staff member.
Wreckage Found South of Ormara
Following an extensive search operation, rescue teams located the aircraft’s wreckage on Wednesday approximately 53 nautical miles (around 98 kilometres) south of Ormara along Pakistan’s coastline.
Search teams continue to work in the area as efforts remain focused on locating the missing crew members.
Investigation Continues
The recovered aircraft components are expected to assist investigators in identifying the factors that led to the crash.
K2 Airways, a private cargo airline based in Karachi, began operations after receiving its airline charter licence from the Government of Pakistan in 2018.
Authorities say the investigation and search operation will continue until all possible evidence has been recovered and the status of the crew is determined.
