OpenAI Introduces GPT-5.5 With Enhanced Coding and Task Automation Features
OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5.5, its latest flagship AI model, offering improved reasoning, stronger coding capabilities, and better performance in handling complex, multi-step tasks.
According to the company, GPT-5.5 is designed to better understand user intent and complete tasks with greater independence. The model can plan workflows, use digital tools, verify outputs, and continue working through complex or unclear instructions. It is particularly suited for software development, office productivity, research, and automation tasks.
The rollout is currently underway for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users across ChatGPT and Codex platforms. A more advanced GPT-5.5 Pro version is also being introduced for higher-tier subscribers, with API access expected soon.
Stronger Performance in Coding
A key highlight of GPT-5.5 is its improved coding efficiency. OpenAI reports that the model delivers better results than its predecessor, GPT-5.4, while using fewer computational resources.
In benchmark testing, GPT-5.5 achieved higher scores in complex coding environments, demonstrating improved ability to manage large codebases, debug issues, and apply changes across multiple files.
Improved Workplace Productivity
Beyond programming, GPT-5.5 is optimized for professional tasks such as research, document drafting, spreadsheet analysis, and software navigation.
The model showed measurable gains in productivity benchmarks, indicating stronger performance across a wide range of real-world job functions. OpenAI also noted that a large portion of its internal teams already rely on Codex for regular workflows.
Advances in Research and Analytical Tasks
GPT-5.5 also demonstrates improved capabilities in scientific and analytical work. It performs better in tasks that require multi-step reasoning, evaluation of evidence, and hypothesis testing.
The model achieved higher scores across several internal and external benchmarks, including those focused on mathematics and scientific problem-solving.
Faster Performance Without Trade-Offs
Despite its improvements, OpenAI says GPT-5.5 maintains similar response times to GPT-5.4. Infrastructure upgrades, including the use of advanced NVIDIA systems, have helped increase processing efficiency and speed.
Safety Measures and Availability
OpenAI states that GPT-5.5 includes enhanced safety features, with additional safeguards aimed at preventing misuse in sensitive areas such as cybersecurity and biological research.
In Codex, the model supports a context window of up to 400,000 tokens. The upcoming API version is expected to support up to 1 million tokens, offering expanded capacity for large-scale tasks.
With GPT-5.5, OpenAI aims to move beyond simple question-answering systems and deliver AI tools capable of completing complex tasks from start to finish.
