US Returns Over 450 Stolen Historical Artifacts to Pakistan

The United States has returned more than 450 cultural and historical artifacts to Pakistan as part of a bilateral agreement aimed at protecting and restoring stolen heritage items.

The recovered antiquities were displayed at an exhibition in Islamabad titled “Legacy Returns Home,” highlighting ongoing cooperation between both countries in the recovery of smuggled cultural property.

Major Recovery of Cultural Heritage

According to the US Embassy, over 450 artifacts worth approximately $23 million have been returned to Pakistan so far under this agreement.

Officials say the initiative reflects long-term collaboration in tracing and recovering valuable historical items taken out of the country illegally.

Exhibition Showcases Rare Antiquities

At the exhibition, US representatives noted that each artifact carries significant historical and cultural importance.

Recovered items include ancient sculptures and relics linked to early civilizations, showcasing Pakistan’s rich archaeological heritage.

Total Recoveries Over the Years

US officials also stated that a total of 514 Pakistani artifacts have been recovered and returned over the past decade.

These efforts are part of continued international cooperation to prevent illegal trafficking of cultural property.

Pakistan Calls It a Major Achievement

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Culture praised the repatriation as a major success in cultural diplomacy and heritage protection.

He said the return of these artifacts strengthens cooperation between Pakistan and international partners in preserving historical identity.

Rare Items Displayed in Museums

Officials noted that several returned artifacts are now displayed in museums in Islamabad, including Buddhist statues, Gandhara art pieces, and ancient sculptures dating back thousands of years.

These collections highlight Pakistan’s historical significance and ongoing efforts to preserve its archaeological heritage.
