Pakistan Steps Up Airport Screening Measures Amid Ebola Outbreak in Africa

Pakistan has increased health screening and precautionary measures at airports across the country following a recent Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday.

Health authorities have directed enhanced screening protocols at all major entry points to help reduce any potential risk of virus transmission.

Precautionary measures at airports

According to the ministry, passengers arriving from affected regions will undergo additional health checks as part of routine border health procedures. Authorities have also instructed relevant agencies to remain on high alert.

Officials said these steps are being taken as a preventive measure, even though the risk to Pakistan remains extremely low due to limited direct travel connections with affected countries.

Monitoring and preparedness

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Pakistan are closely monitoring the situation. Health authorities have confirmed that diagnostic facilities for Ebola are available in the country, with further support being provided to reference laboratories.

Training programs for healthcare workers and hospital staff are also underway to ensure preparedness in case of any suspected case.

No travel restrictions issued

Officials noted that the WHO has not recommended any travel bans, but has advised enhanced surveillance and precautionary measures globally.

Authorities added that Pakistan has never reported a confirmed Ebola case, and current measures are purely preventive.

Awareness and advisory

Health experts have advised travelers to follow international health guidelines when visiting affected regions and to stay informed about updated advisories.

The government has emphasized that ongoing screening at airports and ports will continue as part of routine disease prevention protocols.
