Travis Head and Wife Face Online Abuse After IPL Match Incident With Virat Kohli
Australian cricketer Travis Head and his wife Jessica have reportedly faced online abuse following an on-field exchange involving Indian cricket star Virat Kohli during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
The incident took place during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where heated words were exchanged between the two players.
Kohli was later dismissed for 15 runs as Bengaluru suffered a 55-run defeat against Hyderabad.
Social Media Reaction Draws Attention
Following the match, videos and images circulated online showing a brief moment during the post-match handshake line where Virat Kohli appeared to avoid shaking hands with Travis Head.
According to reports, social media accounts belonging to Head and his wife later received a large number of negative comments and messages.
Jessica said some of their friends and family members also received abusive private messages online.
Call for Respect and Kindness in Sports
In comments shared with media outlets, Jessica said passion is an important part of sports but reminded fans that players and their families are real people deserving of respect.
She expressed hope that the incident would encourage more kindness and positive behaviour among sports fans online.
Jessica also compared the situation to the online criticism faced after Australia defeated India in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final hosted in Ahmedabad.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about online abuse faced by athletes and public figures on social media platforms.
