Federal Budget 2026-27 Expected Later This Month Amid Ongoing Consultations

The federal government is expected to present the FY2026-27 budget in parliament on June 10 or 12, following a revision to the original schedule as policymakers continue consultations on key fiscal and economic matters.

The change in timeline comes after the postponement of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, which was initially scheduled for June 3. According to an official notification from the Cabinet Division, a new date for the meeting will be announced in due course.

Earlier plans had called for the federal budget to be presented on June 5, with the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26 set for release on June 4. However, authorities opted to adjust the schedule to allow additional time for discussions related to economic planning and fiscal targets.

Officials are currently reviewing development spending priorities and coordinating with provincial governments to ensure alignment with broader national economic objectives. Provinces are expected to allocate significant resources toward development projects during the upcoming fiscal year, while the federal government is also working to manage its own spending commitments.

For FY2026-27, the combined provincial development expenditure is projected at approximately Rs. 3.138 trillion, while the federal development budget is expected to remain around Rs. 1.126 trillion.

At the same time, discussions continue regarding revenue targets and fiscal performance goals for the next financial year. Policymakers are evaluating various measures aimed at strengthening public finances, supporting economic growth, and maintaining fiscal stability.

According to official estimates, tax collection targets for the upcoming fiscal year remain under review as authorities assess revenue trends and economic projections. Budget planners are also considering expected growth rates, inflation forecasts, and other macroeconomic indicators while finalizing fiscal proposals.

Reports suggest that administrative and scheduling considerations may have also contributed to the revised budget timeline. However, officials have indicated that the primary focus remains on completing consultations and finalizing budget figures before the formal presentation.

The government is expected to announce the final budget date once the remaining discussions are concluded and key fiscal parameters are finalized.
