Punjab to Distribute 20,000 Green Tractors to Farmers Under New Agriculture Initiative
The Punjab government has announced a major agriculture support programme aimed at distributing 20,000 Green Tractors to farmers in the next fiscal year.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed relevant authorities to implement the initiative as part of efforts to modernize agriculture and improve farm productivity across the province.
Subsidy for Farmers
Under the programme, eligible farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs750,000 on tractors ranging from 50 to 65 horsepower. The government says the initiative is designed to reduce production costs and promote the use of modern farming equipment.
Officials stated that the scheme will support farmers in adopting more efficient agricultural practices and improving overall yield.
Interest-Free Agricultural Financing
The provincial government is also continuing its interest-free financing programme for agricultural machinery. Under this scheme, farmers can obtain loans of up to Rs30 million for the purchase of high-tech equipment across multiple categories.
So far, several hundred advanced harvesting machines have already been provided to farmers under this initiative.
Expansion of Modern Farming Equipment
As part of ongoing efforts to modernize agriculture, thousands of Super Seeders have been distributed to support rice cultivation and reduce environmental pollution caused by crop residue burning.
Officials said the machinery is being used across large areas of farmland and is helping improve efficiency during the sowing and harvesting seasons.
An additional phase of the programme is planned, which will further expand access to modern agricultural tools for farmers across Punjab.
Support for Sustainable Agriculture
The government has emphasized that promoting agricultural mechanization is a key priority. Authorities believe that modern farming equipment can help reduce costs, increase productivity, and support more sustainable agricultural practices.
Plans are also underway to introduce equipment rental services to make advanced machinery more accessible to small-scale farmers at affordable rates.
