PFA Seals Bakery Production Unit in Lahore Over Food Safety Violations

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a bakery production unit in Lahore after identifying multiple food safety and hygiene violations during an inspection conducted as part of routine monitoring of food businesses.

The inspection was carried out by enforcement teams under the supervision of senior officials. During the operation, a large quantity of food items and raw materials was confiscated and disposed of after being declared unfit for human consumption.

Items Destroyed During Inspection

According to officials, the seized items included khoya, cream, expired chemicals, and other raw materials suspected of being unsafe for use in food preparation.

The authority also reported concerns regarding the storage and handling of ingredients at the facility.

Hygiene and Safety Concerns

During the inspection, officials observed poor sanitation conditions within the production area, including damaged flooring and improper drainage. The presence of pests was also reported in storage sections, raising further concerns about hygiene standards.

Authorities stated that some materials had been found with altered expiry labels, while others did not meet required safety standards.

Regulatory Compliance

Officials from the Punjab Food Authority said all food businesses are required to comply with food safety regulations, maintain proper hygiene standards, and ensure staff training and medical screening.

They emphasized that regular inspections are being carried out across the province to ensure compliance and protect public health.
