Denny Hamlin Wins at Michigan for Third NASCAR Cup Series Victory of 2026

Denny Hamlin secured a dramatic victory at Michigan International Speedway, claiming his third win of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season in the FireKeepers Casino 400. The veteran driver delivered a strong comeback performance after starting from the rear of the field.

Hamlin’s win marked his 63rd career Cup Series victory, moving him into a tie for ninth on the all-time wins list. The result also tightened the championship standings, reducing his points gap to leader Tyler Reddick to 51 points with 11 races remaining in the regular season.

Strong Recovery Drive

Although Hamlin initially started from pole position, his team was required to begin from the back of the grid due to pre-race adjustments. He spent much of the early stages working through the field before steadily moving into contention.

By the final portion of the race, Hamlin had climbed into the top five and eventually took control, leading the closing laps and securing a comfortable victory.

Emotional Victory and Tribute

After crossing the finish line, Hamlin celebrated with a tribute lap, acknowledging former teammate Kyle Busch. The gesture was met with appreciation from fans in attendance at the sold-out Michigan venue.

Hamlin described the win as meaningful, reflecting on both the performance of his team and recent emotional moments within the NASCAR community.

Race Highlights and Incidents

The race featured multiple cautions, including a major multi-car crash that eliminated several contenders early. Championship leader Tyler Reddick was among those affected after being involved in an incident that forced him to retire from the race, marking his first DNF of the season.

Another significant incident occurred later in the race when frontrunners Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell collided while battling for position, resulting in a lengthy red flag for track repairs.

Despite the interruptions, Hamlin maintained control late in the race, while Erik Jones finished second in front of his home-state crowd. Bubba Wallace secured third place, followed by Kyle Larson in fourth and Carson Hocevar in fifth.

Championship Picture

The result significantly tightened the championship battle, with only a narrow gap now separating Hamlin from the points leader. With several races remaining before the playoffs, the fight for positioning remains highly competitive.

Looking Ahead

The NASCAR Cup Series now heads to Pocono Raceway for the next event, where drivers will continue their push toward playoff qualification and regular-season standings improvement.
