Brazil Face Morocco in High-Stakes World Cup Opener

Brazil will begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on Sunday with a challenging Group C match against Morocco at East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The five-time world champions enter the tournament under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who is leading Brazil in his first World Cup as a manager. The team is aiming to recover from recent inconsistent performances and rebuild momentum on the global stage.

Brazil have faced several injury setbacks ahead of the tournament, with key players including Rodrygo, Éder Militão, and Estevão ruled out. Neymar is also unavailable for the opening match as he continues his recovery from injury.

Despite these challenges, Brazil still feature several top players, including Vinícius Júnior, who is expected to play a key role in the team’s attack.

Morocco, meanwhile, come into the match after a strong run in recent international tournaments, including a historic semi-final appearance in the 2022 World Cup. The team is now led by new coach Mohamed Ouahbi following recent changes in management.

However, Morocco also face injury concerns, with some players ruled out of the squad ahead of the tournament.

Both teams will be looking to start their World Cup campaign with a strong result in what is expected to be one of the most competitive matches of the group stage.
