Karachi Traffic Police Announce Muharram Traffic Plan for Ashura Processions

The Karachi Traffic Police have issued a detailed traffic management plan for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram to facilitate Ashura processions and help maintain smooth traffic flow across the city.

According to officials, the main processions will begin from Nishtar Park and follow their traditional routes before concluding at Hussainiya Iranian Imambargah. Special traffic arrangements have been put in place to support public convenience and ensure orderly movement during the observances.

Major Road Closures

M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower during the three days of Muharram processions. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Residents traveling from Nazimabad can use Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road, while commuters from Liaquatabad are advised to travel through Teen Hatti and Lasbela before proceeding toward Central Jail.

Traffic Diversions on 9th Muharram

Additional traffic restrictions will be implemented on the 9th of Muharram. Certain sections near Guru Mandir and Liaquatabad will experience temporary closures during designated hours.

Motorists traveling from Hassan Square and P.P. Chowrangi are encouraged to use Kashmir Road and Shahrah-e-Qaideen as alternative routes. Jamshed Road will also face temporary restrictions during specific periods of the day.

Arrangements for Heavy Traffic

Heavy commercial vehicles will be diverted to designated routes to minimize congestion around procession areas.

Vehicles arriving from the Super Highway will be directed through Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad, Sher Shah, and Maripur. Traffic entering the city from the National Highway will be guided through Rashid Minhas Road and Stadium Road before joining approved heavy-traffic corridors.

Parking and Access Regulations

Authorities have prohibited parking along the procession routes. Motorists are advised to avoid restricted areas and follow instructions issued by traffic officials.

Only authorized vehicles with official permits will be allowed access to designated sections of M.A. Jinnah Road during the processions.

Public Advisory

Traffic police have urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes where necessary, and cooperate with law enforcement personnel to ensure smooth traffic movement during Muharram.

Alternative Routes Summary

  • Alternative to M.A. Jinnah Road: Lasbela, Nishtar Road, and Garden Road.
  • Heavy Traffic Route: Liaquatabad No. 10, Sher Shah, and Maripur.
  • Access Points for Sabeel and Niaz Arrangements: Saddar Dawakhana and Capri Signal.
