Mbappe Nets Brace as France Cruise Past Sweden to Reach FIFA World Cup Round of 16

Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

France secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sweden on Tuesday to book their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice in another impressive display.

Playing in front of a packed crowd at New York New Jersey Stadium, France controlled the match from start to finish, creating numerous scoring opportunities while limiting Sweden’s attacking threat.

Mbappe opened the scoring just before halftime, finishing off a well-worked team move after France had already struck the woodwork twice through the captain and Michael Olise.

France doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half when Bradley Barcola found the net after an excellent assist from Olise. Mbappe then sealed the victory in the 74th minute, curling home his second goal of the evening following another creative pass from the in-form winger.

The win sends France into the Round of 16, where they will face Paraguay as they continue their pursuit of another FIFA World Cup title.

Mbappe’s two-goal performance takes his tally to six goals in the tournament, placing him among the leading contenders for the Golden Boot. The France captain has also increased his overall FIFA World Cup scoring record to 18 goals, continuing his remarkable success on football’s biggest stage.

Michael Olise played a key role throughout the match, constantly creating chances and causing problems for Sweden’s defense with his pace, movement, and precise passing. Bradley Barcola also impressed by converting one of France’s many attacking opportunities.

Sweden, featuring several experienced attacking players, found it difficult to gain possession as France dominated both the midfield and the final third. Despite making the knockout stage, the Scandinavian side struggled to produce meaningful chances against the tournament favorites.

France created danger from the opening whistle, with Mbappe having an early goal ruled out for offside before hitting the post moments later. Olise also came close with a spectacular overhead effort that struck the woodwork as France continued to apply pressure.

Their persistence paid off just before the halftime break when Mbappe finally broke the deadlock. After the restart, France maintained complete control, adding two more goals to complete a convincing performance.
