Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail
Bangladesh is expected to host the 2027 Asia Cup, with the tournament likely to take place from June 18 to July 4, 2027 in the One-Day International (ODI) format.
According to reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has agreed on a proposed window for the tournament, which will be held just a few months before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. The event is expected to provide participating teams with valuable preparation ahead of the global tournament.
Six Teams Likely to Participate
The competition is expected to feature six teams:
- Pakistan
- India
- Bangladesh
- Sri Lanka
- Afghanistan
- One qualifying Associate nation
A total of 13 matches are likely to be played during the tournament.
Proposed Venues in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly been asked to recommend at least three venues for the event.
The leading candidates include:
- Dhaka
- Sylhet
- Chattogram
The final is expected to be staged at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, although the venue has not yet been officially confirmed.
Focus on World Cup-Like Conditions
Reports suggest that tournament organizers want pitches with extra pace and bounce to help teams prepare for the playing conditions expected during the 2027 ODI World Cup in southern Africa.
Such conditions would allow participating sides to test their combinations and strategies before cricket’s biggest ODI event.
Official Confirmation Still Awaited
Bangladesh’s hosting rights had recently been the subject of speculation following reports of strained cricketing relations between Bangladesh and India. However, Bangladesh is still expected to host the tournament.
