Karachi Water Pipeline Damage Continues to Affect Supply After Five Months

July 18, 2026

Several areas of Karachi continue to experience water shortages after a major 33-inch water pipeline remained damaged for nearly five months.

The affected pipeline is located near Nipa Chowrangi, beneath the flyover, where it was reportedly damaged during work related to the K-IV water augmentation project.

Temporary Repairs, Permanent Work Still Pending

According to officials, temporary repairs were carried out shortly after the damage occurred to restore some water supply.

However, around 200 feet of the pipeline was reportedly severely damaged and requires complete replacement to fully resolve the issue.

Dispute Delays Replacement Work

The replacement project has not yet begun due to an ongoing dispute between the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) over responsibility for carrying out the repairs.

As a result, the damaged section remains unrepaired.

Water Shortages Continue

The unresolved issue has affected water supply in several parts of Karachi, with many residents continuing to face shortages.

Authorities have yet to announce a timeline for replacing the damaged pipeline, while efforts to resolve the matter remain ongoing.
