PCB Unveils Men’s Domestic Cricket Calendar for 2026-27 Season

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced its Men’s Domestic Cricket Calendar for the 2026-27 season, with a strong emphasis on preparing players for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

The domestic season will run from 11 August 2026 to 15 June 2027, featuring a packed schedule of List-A, first-class, T20, age-group, and district-level tournaments designed to strengthen Pakistan’s cricket structure.

World Cup Preparation a Key Priority

The season will begin with two List-A competitions to help players prepare for the 50-over ICC Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa from 4 October to 21 November 2027.

The opening tournament, the National Champions Cup, will feature four teams and will be played in Multan from 11 to 18 August. It will be followed by the President’s Cup Grade-I in Karachi.

Major Changes to Domestic Structure

PCB has introduced several updates to improve the domestic system:

• All 16 regional associations will now participate in first-class cricket.
• Sialkot and Peshawar have each received an additional regional team, expanding the competition.
• The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will now feature Gold and Silver divisions.
• The former Hanif Mohammad Trophy has been upgraded to first-class status and renamed the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver.

Promotion and relegation between the two divisions will be introduced, adding greater competition throughout the season.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Format

The premier first-class competition will include:

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold

• 8 teams
• 1 November – 17 December
• Matches in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Abbottabad

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver

• 12 teams
• 1 November – 5 December
• Matches in Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan

The Silver division winner will earn promotion to the Gold division for the following season.

National T20 Cup Schedule

The National T20 competition will also be divided into two levels:

• National T20 Cup Silver: 5–19 February 2027
• National T20 Cup Gold: 23 February–6 March 2027

Both tournaments will be held in Lahore.

Departmental Cricket Continues

Departmental cricket remains an important part of the domestic calendar.

The President’s Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament and Grade-II Gold and Silver competitions will begin on 12 September, featuring teams from multiple cities across Pakistan.

Greater Focus on Youth Development

PCB has expanded opportunities for young cricketers through several age-group tournaments.

These include:

• National U19 Championship (Three-Day)
• National U19 Cup (50-Over)
• National U15 Cup
• National U17 Cup

The U19 competitions will run from 15 September to 6 November, while U15 and U17 tournaments will take place later in the season.

School Cricket Expansion

PCB has significantly expanded its school cricket development programme.

The PCB Talent Hunt Programme will now cover:

• 1,200 schools
• 100 districts

This is a major increase from the previous season, when the programme included 450 schools across 39 districts.

PCB Official Highlights Season Vision

PCB Senior General Manager Domestic Cricket Operations Osama Sharoon said the 2026-27 season has been carefully designed to strengthen Pakistan’s cricket pathway from grassroots to the national team.

He added that the inclusion of first-class cricket for all regions, expanded youth competitions, and early List-A tournaments will help prepare players for future international challenges, including the ICC Cricket World Cup.
