PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia, Condemns Red Sea Tanker Attacks
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia during a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while condemning recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
The discussion came after reports of attacks targeting Saudi-linked oil tankers, raising concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.
PM Condemns Attacks on Commercial Shipping
In a statement shared on social media, Prime Minister Shehbaz described the attacks on vessels as unacceptable and stressed the importance of protecting international shipping routes.
He said such incidents threaten freedom of navigation, regional stability, and global trade, adding that Pakistan stands in solidarity with Saudi Arabia during the current situation.

The prime minister said he conveyed Pakistan’s unwavering support to the Saudi leadership and people.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the conversation was held in a cordial atmosphere, with both leaders reaffirming the strong and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Crown Prince also appreciated Pakistan’s continued support and the close ties between the two countries.
Focus on Regional Peace and Maritime Security
During the call, both leaders agreed to continue working together to promote:
- Regional peace and stability
- Maritime security in the Red Sea
- Safe and uninterrupted commercial shipping
- Cooperation on regional security matters
They also emphasized the importance of ensuring the smooth flow of lawful maritime trade through the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, both of which are vital global shipping routes.
Pakistan Expresses Concern Over Maritime Security
Earlier this week, Pakistan also expressed concern over threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea, highlighting the importance of protecting international maritime routes.
The Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden, is a key global trade corridor and an important route for Pakistan’s energy imports and international commerce.
Officials have reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting regional peace, safeguarding maritime trade, and promoting stability through diplomatic cooperation.
