Punjab Imposes Temporary Restrictions on Swimming and Boating During Monsoon Season

The Punjab government has imposed temporary restrictions under Section 144 across the province during the ongoing monsoon season, limiting swimming, bathing, and unauthorized boating at various water bodies.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the measures have been introduced to help reduce the risk of accidents during periods of heavy rainfall.

Activities Restricted

Under the notification, the following activities are temporarily prohibited:

  • Swimming in rivers, canals, dams, lakes, and ponds.
  • Bathing in rainwater accumulated in public or open areas.
  • Unauthorized boating in rivers, canals, dams, and water channels.

The restrictions will remain in effect for 60 days, unless revised by the relevant authorities.

Purpose of the Restrictions

Officials said the temporary measures have been introduced as a public safety precaution due to the increased risks associated with heavy rainfall, rising water levels, and strong water currents during the monsoon season.

The government has directed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to implement the notification in accordance with applicable regulations.

Public Awareness Campaign

Alongside the restrictions, the Punjab government has launched a public awareness campaign to encourage citizens to follow safety guidelines during the monsoon season.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid entering flooded areas or fast-flowing water bodies and to follow official weather and safety advisories until conditions improve.

The government said these precautionary measures are intended to help protect public safety during the ongoing spell of monsoon weather.
