AJK Elections: PML-N Wins Majority of Seats in Mirpur Division, Unofficial Results Show

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured nine of the 13 constituencies in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Mirpur Division, according to unofficial results released by the AJK Election Commission after the first phase of the legislative assembly elections.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won the remaining four seats in the division.

First Phase of Polling Completed

The first phase of the AJK elections was held across Mirpur Division, while the remaining phases are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

According to the Election Commission, the unofficial results are based on Form-26 and Form-27, which include votes cast on polling day as well as advance polling by election staff.

Seat Distribution

Based on the preliminary results:

  • PML-N: 9 seats
  • PPP: 4 seats

PML-N candidates were declared successful in constituencies across Dadyal, Khari Sharif, Barnala, Samahni, Bhimber, Nakyal, Sehnsa, Charhoi, and Khuiratta.

PPP secured victories in Mirpur City, Chakswari, and two constituencies in Kotli.

Key Constituency Results

Some of the notable unofficial results include:

  • LA-1 (Mirpur-I): PML-N candidate Azhar Sadiq won the seat.
  • LA-2 (Mirpur-II): PPP candidate Qasim Majeed secured victory.
  • LA-3 (Mirpur-III): PPP’s Yasir Sultan was declared successful.
  • LA-4 (Mirpur-IV): PML-N’s Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed won the constituency.
  • LA-5 (Bhimber-I): PML-N’s Waqar Ahmed Noor secured victory after a closely contested race.
  • LA-7 (Bhimber-III): PML-N’s Tariq Farooq won the seat.
  • LA-8 (Kotli-I): PPP’s Zafar Iqbal emerged victorious.
  • LA-9 (Kotli-II): PML-N’s Umair Naeem won the constituency.
  • LA-10 (Kotli-III): PPP’s Chaudhry Yasin secured the seat.
  • LA-11, LA-12, and LA-13: PML-N candidates were declared successful according to the unofficial results.

Remaining Election Schedule

The Election Commission has announced that the remaining phases of the AJK elections will be held as follows:

  • August 2: Polling in constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division and refugee constituencies.
  • August 10: Polling in constituencies of Poonch Division.

Election Commission’s Statement

Following the completion of polling in the first phase, the Chief Election Commissioner described the election as one of the most challenging in AJK’s history.

He said election authorities remained focused on conducting the polling process and noted that while isolated incidents can occur during elections, official investigations are required before drawing conclusions about reported events.

The Election Commission is expected to continue releasing official results and updates as the remaining phases of the election process are completed.
