Iran Places 45 Tankers on Restricted List Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions
Iran has identified 45 tankers it says violated its requirements for vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz, with potential penalties including fines, detention and cargo confiscation.

Iran has placed 45 oil and gas tankers on a restricted list over what authorities described as violations of its rules for crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority, a recently established Iranian body responsible for matters related to the waterway, said the listed vessels could face penalties including fines, detention or confiscation of their cargoes.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and increasing pressure between Iran and the United States.
Tankers from Several Countries Included
The restricted list includes different types of commercial vessels, including crude oil carriers, liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and vessels transporting refined petroleum products.
Some of the vessels are associated with shipping companies from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and other countries.
Iran also warned that ships involved in ship-to-ship transfers with vessels on the restricted list could potentially be added to the list.
Iran Explains Its Position
Iranian authorities have previously stated that vessel operators should obtain the necessary clearance to transit the Strait of Hormuz and comply with requirements related to maritime services and security.
The latest announcement did not provide detailed explanations for each vessel’s alleged violation.
Authorities said shipping companies seeking removal from the restricted list could submit requests to the relevant Iranian maritime authorities along with supporting explanations.
Importance of the Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
Disruptions in the waterway can affect international oil and gas supplies because a significant share of global energy shipments passes through the region.
Despite the ongoing tensions, efforts are continuing to maintain tanker movements through the waterway and support energy exports.

Kiku, Mubaraz, Minoan Pioneer, Hafeet, Al Rekayyat, Wedyan, Cyprus Prosperity, Al Rawdah, Rasheeda, Lebrethah, Lila Vadinar, Maha Roos, Gfs Galaxy, Al Bahyah, Mombasa B, Stolt Magnesium, Al Watan, Navig8 Messi, Singapore Prosperity, Disha, Gaslog Shanghai, Lubna, Hazi 1, Ryujin, Anna Barbara, Sunbird Arrow, Minoan Dignity, Maria, Kavomaleas, Mardan, Sweden Prosperity, Jarnain, Kaifan, Nissos Kea, Rotterdam Energy, Al Hamra, Umm Al Ashtan, Marigold Lng, Banastar, Navara, Nissos Heraclea, Blue Star 1, Ashley, Mraweh and Al Lulu.
