Jasprit Bumrah Returns to India’s T20 Squad for Afghanistan Series
Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail
India has included star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in its 15-member T20 squad for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan.
Bumrah’s selection is subject to fitness clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The three T20 matches are scheduled to be played at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13, 15 and 17.
The Indian team will be led by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma named as vice-captain.
Bumrah Returns After Injury
The 32-year-old fast bowler has been away from competitive bowling since the second ODI against England in Cardiff on July 16.
He suffered an impact-related injury during that match and has not bowled since. His inclusion in the squad means his availability for the Afghanistan series will depend on the outcome of his fitness assessment.
Besides Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy will also require fitness clearance before taking part in the series.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Included
Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also been selected for the series.
The teenager had a difficult start during India’s tour of England but responded strongly in July with two half-centuries against Zimbabwe. His continued inclusion gives him another opportunity to establish himself in India’s T20 setup.
Afghanistan will be the official host for the series. The Afghan team has previously used India and the United Arab Emirates as venues for its home fixtures.
