Motorcycle Owner Faces Rs70,000 in E-Challans Over Helmet Violations

A motorcycle owner who planned to sell his bike to pay a Rs26,000 electricity bill was reportedly surprised to discover that the vehicle had accumulated e-challans totaling Rs70,000.

According to officials, the motorcycle had 35 outstanding e-challans, all issued for allegedly riding without a helmet.

The violations were reportedly detected through cameras installed near Suddhar Bypass. The automated traffic monitoring system recorded the alleged violations and generated the corresponding e-challans.

The motorcycle owner learned about the outstanding fines when he went to sell the vehicle. The total amount of the penalties was significantly higher than the electricity bill he was already struggling to pay.

Owner Appeals for Relief

The young man has reportedly appealed to the relevant authorities for relief from the accumulated e-challans.

He said he was already planning to sell his motorcycle because he needed money to clear his Rs26,000 electricity bill. The discovery of Rs70,000 in pending traffic fines has added to his financial difficulties.

The case highlights the increasing use of automated traffic monitoring systems to identify violations and issue e-challans. It also serves as a reminder for motorcycle riders to follow helmet requirements and regularly check whether any traffic fines are registered against their vehicles.

Authorities have not yet announced whether the request for a reduction or waiver of the outstanding fines will be accepted.
