Kim Jong Un’s Daughter Believed to Have Younger Sibling, South Korean Spy Agency Says
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s daughter, Kim Ju Ae, is believed to have a younger sibling, according to South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS).
The latest assessment provides additional information about the North Korean ruling family, although details about Kim Jong Un’s children remain limited.
South Korean intelligence officials have previously assessed that Kim Jong Un has three children. However, there has been uncertainty over their ages, gender and order of birth.
According to the NIS, Kim Ju Ae is currently considered to be the likely successor to her father. The agency also believes that she has a younger sibling, although the gender of the child has not been confirmed.
The intelligence agency said it is continuing to examine reports about whether Kim Ju Ae may also have an older brother. However, officials currently do not believe that such a sibling would be positioned to succeed Kim Jong Un.
Kim Ju Ae’s Growing Public Role
Kim Ju Ae was first publicly introduced in 2022 when she appeared alongside her father during an event linked to the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

North Korean state media have also used increasingly prominent descriptions for Kim Ju Ae, including terms associated with senior leadership and potential successors.

Kim Jong Un belongs to the ruling Kim family, which has governed North Korea for several generations. The family’s political legitimacy is closely associated with the country’s leadership tradition and the so-called Paektu bloodline.
While South Korean intelligence agencies regularly provide assessments about the North Korean leadership, many details about Kim Jong Un’s family remain unconfirmed.
The latest NIS assessment suggests that Kim Ju Ae’s role within the leadership structure is becoming increasingly significant, while the identities and positions of her siblings remain less clear.
