Lahore Traffic Police Plans Safety Rods for 2.3 Million Motorcycles Ahead of Basant
Lahore Traffic Police has prepared a special traffic and safety plan for the upcoming Basant festival, with a target of equipping around 2.3 million motorcycles across the city with safety rods.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi said the department aims to provide safety rods to nearly 80 percent of the city’s motorcyclists before the festival.
During the previous Basant celebrations, traffic authorities distributed protective rods to approximately 1 million bikers.
100 Camps to Be Set Up Across Lahore
Under the new safety plan, Lahore Traffic Police will establish around 100 camps at important locations across the city.
These camps will facilitate the installation of safety rods on motorcycles and help authorities reach a larger number of riders before Basant.
A public awareness campaign is scheduled to begin on November 1, while the installation drive will start from January 1, 2027.
The campaign will focus on informing motorcyclists about the safety measures and requirements that will apply during the festival.
Helmet Rule for Double Riding
The traffic plan also includes additional safety requirements for motorcycles.
Under the proposed measures, when two people are travelling on a motorcycle, both riders will be required to wear helmets.
Traffic authorities are expected to increase enforcement of safety regulations as Basant approaches.
Restrictions for Red Zones
Motorcycles and Qingqi rickshaws will not be permitted to enter areas designated as red zones during the Basant celebrations.
Authorities will also restrict motorcycles without the required safety rods from entering Lahore through designated entry and exit points.
These measures are intended to ensure that vehicles entering the city comply with the safety requirements established for the festival.
Basant Safety Plan to Be Implemented in Three Phases
According to CTO Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the overall traffic strategy will be implemented in three phases.
The first phase will focus on public awareness and educating citizens about the safety measures. The second phase will involve implementation of the announced requirements, while the final phase will focus on enforcement.
The traffic police plan is aimed at improving road safety and ensuring smoother traffic management during Basant, when increased movement across Lahore is expected.
