Punjab Offers Rs. 30,000 Reward for Turning Kitchen Waste Into Compost

The Punjab government has encouraged residents to turn kitchen waste into compost instead of disposing of it with regular household garbage.

The initiative has been announced under the Chief Minister Punjab Green Credit Program as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly practices across the province.

In a message issued on World Cleanup Day, the government asked citizens to collect biodegradable kitchen waste, including fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells and other organic materials, and use them to produce compost at home.

According to the program, citizens who properly collect kitchen waste and convert it into compost can receive three Green Credits, with a stated value of Rs. 30,000.

Composting can help reduce the amount of organic waste sent to garbage collection systems while producing a natural material that can be used for plants, home gardens and other gardening activities.

The Green Credit Program is designed to encourage public participation in activities that support cleaner and greener communities. The government has also highlighted simple household practices as part of its broader environmental awareness efforts.

Under the theme “Kitchen Waste, Compost and Greener Punjab,” residents have been encouraged to adopt practical waste-management habits that can contribute to a cleaner environment.
