Government Approves Import of 1 Million Tonnes of Wheat
The federal government has decided to import one million tonnes of wheat to help improve domestic supply and support price stability across the country.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain said the decision was made after consultations with provincial governments, which highlighted the need to strengthen wheat availability.
Move Aims to Support Market Stability
According to the minister, the wheat import is intended to help stabilize the prices of wheat and flour in local markets as demand continues to rise.
Recent official figures indicate that wheat and flour prices have increased in several parts of the country.
Latest Wheat and Flour Prices
For the first week of July 2026, the average wheat price reached Rs. 4,611 per 40 kg, compared to Rs. 4,516 a week earlier.
