Chinese President Xi Jinping to Visit US for Talks With Trump
Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the United States from September 23 to 25, 2026, for meetings with US President Donald Trump.
China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the visit on Monday, saying the two leaders are expected to discuss China-US relations, global peace, economic development, and other major international issues.
Trade and Technology Among Key Topics
Trade is expected to be one of the main subjects during the discussions between Xi and Trump.
The United States and China have faced disagreements over tariffs, technology, and broader economic policies. Officials from both countries have also been holding talks ahead of the leaders’ meeting.
Artificial intelligence and the need for communication between the two countries on emerging technologies are also expected to receive attention.
Trump to Welcome Xi in Washington
A US official said President Trump will personally welcome Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday before the two leaders begin their formal meetings.
Trump previously met Xi during his state visit to China in May.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said he expected to discuss a wide range of issues with the Chinese president.
Taiwan and Global Issues
The two leaders are also expected to address broader strategic issues, including tensions surrounding Taiwan.
The US and China have maintained a temporary tariff arrangement for nearly a year, but a longer-term trade agreement has yet to be finalized.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Beijing’s leading trade negotiator, is already in the United States for discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Focus on China-US Relations
China’s Foreign Ministry said Beijing wants to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Washington while managing differences between the two countries.
The upcoming meeting between Xi and Trump will provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss trade, technology, security, and other areas of mutual concern.
