Maria Corina Machado Wins 2025 Nobel Peace Prize
 October 10, 2025

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Maria Corina Machado for her tireless efforts to promote democracy and human rights in Venezuela. The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized her unwavering dedication to achieving a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

Announcing the award in Oslo, the Committee praised Machado’s “uncompromising commitment to freedom, justice, and human rights,” calling her a symbol of courage for millions of Venezuelans facing political repression and economic hardship.

Machado, a veteran opposition leader and founder of the political movement Vente Venezuela, has long championed nonviolent resistance and democratic reform, despite facing arrests, threats, and bans from public office.

“The Committee wishes to highlight her role in inspiring hope and mobilizing civic participation under one of Latin America’s most repressive regimes,” the Nobel statement said.

Machado expressed humility and gratitude, dedicating the award to “the brave Venezuelans who refuse to give up on freedom.”

The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 highlights growing global attention on Venezuela’s political crisis and the fight for democracy in Latin America. Machado joins a distinguished list of laureates including Nelson Mandela and Malala Yousafzai.

The award ceremony is scheduled for December 10, 2025, in Oslo, marking the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
