Harry Brook Says Brydon Carse Needs Time Away From International Cricket

England white-ball captain Harry Brook has said fast bowler Brydon Carse needs some time away from international cricket following a difficult period away from the field.
Carse, 31, was arrested and later de-arrested after an incident involving Durham teammates during a night out in Derby last month. Police have since confirmed that their investigation into an alleged assault has ended with no further action.
Carse Remains Out of England Team
The South Africa-born fast bowler has continued playing for Durham at county level but has not featured for England since the incident.
Carse is also subject to an investigation by the independent cricket regulator. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that he remains available for international selection.
England limited-overs head coach Brendon McCullum recently said Carse needed to address matters away from cricket before returning to the international setup.
Brook Says Carse Is Working Behind the Scenes
Brook, who is also a close friend of Carse, said the fast bowler is currently dealing with some issues away from the public spotlight.
Speaking to the BBC, Brook said he had remained in contact with Carse but would not discuss their private conversations.
He added that Carse needs some time away from international cricket and expressed hope that his teammate would be ready to return in the future.
England Focus on Standards
Carse has not played for England since the fifth Ashes Test in January and had already missed the first part of the English season because of injury.
His recent situation comes as England look to reinforce standards within their teams. Brook said players have a responsibility to set a positive example both on and off the field.
Ahead of England’s first ODI against Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street, Brook stressed that international cricketers are expected to act as role models.
Rashid Misses First ODI
England will also be without experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid for the opening match of the three-game ODI series because of a hand injury.
Rehan Ahmed has been brought into the squad as his replacement.
England enter the ODI series after beating Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20 series, which concluded on Saturday.
