Mikael Granlund Named Anaheim Ducks Captain for 2026-27 Season

ANAHEIM, California: The Anaheim Ducks have named veteran Finnish forward Mikael Granlund as the 10th captain in franchise history.
The 34-year-old takes over the captaincy from defenseman Radko Gudas, who was traded to the Florida Panthers during the offseason after serving as Anaheim’s captain for two seasons.
The Ducks also announced four alternate captains. Young players Leo Carlsson and Jackson LaCombe will share the role with veterans Troy Terry and Alex Killorn.
Granlund is entering his second season with Anaheim after signing a three-year contract with the club as a free agent in 2025.
He made an immediate impact during his first season with the Ducks, scoring 19 goals and recording 22 assists. His contribution helped Anaheim return to the playoffs after a seven-season absence.
Granlund added five goals during the postseason, matching the team’s highest total in the playoffs.
The Finnish forward also has extensive international leadership experience. He served as captain of Finland at the 2026 Winter Olympics and at two World Championships. Finland went on to win the bronze medal at the Milan-Cortina Games.
Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said Granlund’s leadership experience and approach made him a natural choice for the captaincy.
Granlund began his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild in January 2013. During his 14-year career, he has also played for the Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.
