Several Major Motorways and Highways to Close From September 23
Several major motorways and highways connecting Islamabad and surrounding areas will be closed from 11pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and will remain closed until further notice, according to an Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) advisory.
The closures will affect the M-1 Peshawar Motorway, M-14 CPEC route, E-35 Hazara Motorway, N-5 GT Road, and other important connecting roads.
According to the traffic advisory, the M-1 will be closed from Haroon Bridge, while the M-14 CPEC route will be blocked from Kani Bridge near Tarap Interchange in the Mianwali Police jurisdiction.
The E-35 Hazara Motorway will be closed from the Hazara Interlink near Burhan Interchange. Meanwhile, traffic on the N-5 GT Road will be stopped from Attock Khurd.
Other affected routes include:
- Rawalpindi-Kohat Road: Closed from Khushal Garh
- Abbottabad-Hassanabdal Road: Closed from Jhari Kas Checkpost
The closures are scheduled to begin at 11pm on September 23 and will continue until further notice.
Islamabad Traffic Police has advised motorists travelling from Islamabad and nearby areas to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the affected routes.
Drivers have also been encouraged to use alternative roads where possible to reduce travel delays and inconvenience.
