Laam Fashion Week Brings Karachi’s Fashion Scene Back Into the Spotlight
Karachi’s fashion community came together for Laam Fashion Week Presents: Kaleidoscopic Karachi, an event that combined contemporary fashion with memories from the city’s vibrant style history.
Held at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture in Clifton, the event featured an exhibition showcasing more than four decades of fashion photography by renowned photographer Tapu Javeri.
A Walk Through Karachi’s Fashion History
The photography exhibition offered visitors a nostalgic look at Pakistan’s fashion industry from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
For many members of the older generation, the photographs brought back memories of fashion magazines, iconic models and celebrities who became prominent figures in the industry.
Several personalities from those earlier eras later established themselves as influential names in Pakistani fashion and continue to contribute to the industry.
The event also provided an opportunity for members of Karachi’s fashion fraternity, along with supporters, patrons and philanthropists, to reconnect after a long gap.
Leading Karachi Designers Take the Ramp
The fashion showcase featured several prominent Karachi-based brands and designers, including Deepak Perwani, Khaadi, The Pink Tree Company, Wardha Saleem and Sana Safinaz.
Deepak Perwani opened the show with a monochrome collection featuring distinctive cuts, silhouettes and embellished details. Former models Seemi Pasha, Frieha Altaf and Atiya Khan also appeared on the runway alongside the designer.
Khaadi Presents a Futuristic Collection
Khaadi presented a collection focused on experimentation, bold prints and embellished tunics.
The designs reflected a modern and forward-looking approach, combining distinctive patterns with contemporary silhouettes.
Wardha Saleem Looks to Karachi’s Past
Wardha Saleem took inspiration from Karachi’s history and old-city architecture.
Her collection incorporated elements influenced by the city’s traditional buildings and heritage, translating those visual references into clothing.
The presentation was accompanied by the popular Bandar Road Se Keamari anthem, adding another nostalgic element to the showcase.
The Pink Tree Company Brings Festive Glamour
The Pink Tree Company presented designs featuring gota work and gold block printing, creating a collection suited to the upcoming wedding and festive season.
The looks were complemented by styling from Nabila’s team, while Tabesh Khoja provided styling direction. The show was choreographed by Nubain Ali.
Sana Safinaz Highlights Classic Elegance
Sana Safinaz presented a collection built around classic style, sophistication and grandeur.
The brand’s showcase offered a glimpse of festive and wedding-inspired fashion, combining traditional elegance with contemporary styling.
Overall, Kaleidoscopic Karachi brought together Pakistan’s established fashion names and newer creative ideas while celebrating the city’s long connection with fashion, photography and popular culture.
