Spain have increased their advantage over the United States at the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Rankings following the latest update released on Tuesday after the conclusion of the recent international fixtures.
The Spanish national team, known as La Roja, have held the No. 1 position since August 2025 and strengthened their standing with an impressive performance against the United States during their recent two-match series on American soil.
Spain secured a 2-0 victory in Washington, D.C., on October 10 before playing out a 2-2 draw against the hosts in Chester, Pennsylvania, on October 13. The results helped Spain extend their lead over the second-ranked United States.
The remainder of the top nine positions remained unchanged. Germany, England and Japan occupy third, fourth and fifth place, respectively, while France, Brazil, Sweden and Canada complete the top nine alongside the leading two teams.
Denmark emerged as the only new entrant into the top 10 in the latest rankings. The Danish side climbed two places to reach 10th, marking its first appearance among the world’s top 10 women’s teams since August 2010.
The Netherlands slipped one position to 11th, while North Korea dropped to 12th.
Malawi record the biggest rise
Malawi registered the most significant improvement in the latest update, climbing 49 places to 104th in the world rankings.
The rise follows the team’s impressive run to the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. That achievement also secured Malawi qualification for their first-ever Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Brazil next year.
Egypt experienced the biggest decline in the rankings, falling 14 places to 113th. The team’s recent struggles contributed to the drop, with Egypt losing their last three matches by a combined score of 15-3.
The FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Rankings provide an updated assessment of national teams based on their international results and performances.
The next edition of the women’s rankings is scheduled for release on December 7, when teams will have another opportunity to improve their positions through upcoming international fixtures.
