Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail
Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem and fellow thrower Yasir Sultan are set to compete in the men’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games.
A total of 14 athletes will contest the final, with medals to be decided on the basis of each competitor’s best valid throw.
Arshad Nadeem Leads Pakistan’s Challenge
Arshad Nadeem will headline Pakistan’s participation in the event, while Yasir Sultan’s qualification means the country has two athletes in the final.
The competition also features athletes from several Asian countries, including Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga and two representatives from India. India’s prominent javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, however, is not taking part in these Asian Games.
Arshad entered the competition after completing his preparations in Lahore and Japan. His coach, Salman Butt, said the Olympic champion trained in Japanese conditions and is fully prepared for the final.
According to his coach, Arshad has continued his normal training programme and is in good form ahead of the medal event.
Yasir Sultan Also in Medal Contention
Yasir Sultan will get the opportunity to compete alongside Arshad against some of Asia’s leading javelin throwers.
The final will be decided by the longest valid throw recorded by each athlete. A strong approach, effective technique, runway conditions and a clean release will be important factors during the competition.
Arshad Nadeem has become one of Pakistan’s most prominent athletics stars following a series of strong performances on the international stage. His Olympic achievement also helped increase interest in javelin throw and athletics across Pakistan.
With two Pakistani athletes in the final, attention will now turn to their performances as they compete for a place on the Asian Games podium.
