Bangladesh Defeat Pakistan by 78 Runs to Seal 2-0 Test Series Victory
Bangladesh secured a memorable 78-run victory over Pakistan in the second Test at Sylhet on Wednesday, completing a 2-0 clean sweep in the series.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam starred with the ball, taking six wickets in Pakistan’s second innings to help Bangladesh clinch their first-ever home Test series win against Pakistan.
Chasing a target of 437 runs, Pakistan resumed the fifth day at 316-7 but were eventually bowled out for 328 during the morning session.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan fought hard with a determined innings of 94 runs off 166 balls, keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive despite regular wickets falling around him.
Rizwan and Sajid Khan added a valuable 54-run partnership for the eighth wicket before Taijul Islam dismissed Sajid after he scored 28 runs.
Soon after, fast bowler Shoriful Islam removed Rizwan to end Pakistan’s resistance.
Taijul Islam finished with impressive bowling figures of 6-120 in the innings and also claimed three wickets in Pakistan’s first innings.
Earlier in the match, Litton Das scored 126 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings total of 278.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim then played a crucial knock of 137 in the second innings, helping Bangladesh post 390 runs with support from Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who scored 52, and Litton Das, who added 69 more runs.
Under the captaincy of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh had also won the first Test by 104 runs.
After the match, Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted the team made several mistakes during the series.
He said Pakistan failed to perform consistently in key moments and acknowledged that Test cricket demands patience, discipline, and strong execution over five days.
