Bilawal Calls for Early Completion of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Urges Accelerated Work
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has urged the federal government to expedite work on the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, describing it as a key national infrastructure project.
Addressing a public gathering in Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan, he said the project holds significant importance for Pakistan’s water security, agriculture, and long-term energy needs.
Bilawal stated that the dam is not only important for the local population but also for the country’s broader development requirements, and called for its timely completion.
He also referred to regional water-related concerns and stressed the importance of safeguarding Pakistan’s water resources under international agreements.
The PPP chairman urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to accelerate construction work on the project.
The Diamer-Bhasha Dam is a major hydroelectric project with an expected generation capacity of around 4,500 megawatts. Once completed, it is expected to support irrigation over large agricultural areas and extend the operational life of the Tarbela Dam.
During his address, Bilawal also spoke about political developments in Gilgit-Baltistan and encouraged public participation in the upcoming elections.
He highlighted his party’s past contributions to social welfare programs and reiterated PPP’s focus on development initiatives in the region.
The project remains one of the largest ongoing infrastructure developments in the country and is considered significant for Pakistan’s long-term water and energy planning.
