Liverpool Beat Tottenham 3-1 as Arsenal Teenager Max Dowman Scores Twice

Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in the League Cup third round on Tuesday, while 16-year-old Max Dowman scored twice as Arsenal cruised to a 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
The results added to Tottenham’s difficult start to the season, while Arsenal maintained their perfect record across all competitions.
Liverpool Continue Tottenham’s Difficult Start
Tottenham’s hopes of gaining confidence from a League Cup run were ended at Anfield as Liverpool secured a comfortable 3-1 win.
Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Cody Gakpo found Rio Ngumoha, who set up the midfielder for a powerful first-time finish.
Liverpool doubled their advantage nine minutes after half-time. Gakpo produced an excellent strike that found the far corner of the Tottenham goal.
Tottenham pulled one goal back in the 69th minute when Conor Gallagher took advantage of poor marking from a corner.
However, Liverpool restored their two-goal advantage in stoppage time. Dominik Szoboszlai unleashed a powerful 25-yard effort to complete the scoring.
Tottenham Under Pressure
The defeat extends Tottenham’s poor run at the beginning of the Premier League campaign.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have failed to win or score in their first four league matches, recording two defeats and two draws. Their only victory this season came in the League Cup against Championship side Charlton.
Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League last season after narrowly avoiding relegation. The club then spent more than £300 million on 10 new players during the summer transfer window.
Despite the major investment, results have yet to improve, increasing pressure ahead of their next league match against Aston Villa.
The situation was further complicated by Richarlison, who expressed his frustration on social media after being left out of the squad for the Liverpool match. The Brazilian forward has reportedly been looking for a move away from Tottenham.
Max Dowman Shines for Arsenal
At Portman Road, teenage midfielder Max Dowman delivered a standout performance as Arsenal defeated Ipswich 4-2.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made nine changes to the team that beat Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, giving the 16-year-old Dowman his first appearance of the season.
Dowman wasted little time making an impact.
The teenager opened the scoring in the seventh minute after using his quick footwork to get past Cedric Kipre before calmly finishing past goalkeeper Christian Walton.
Noni Madueke doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 16th minute with a low shot from inside the penalty area.
Dowman scored his second goal shortly after the restart. He ran onto a pass from Martin Zubimendi in the 47th minute and finished confidently.
Mikel Merino then added Arsenal’s fourth goal in the 58th minute after receiving a pass from Dowman.
Ipswich managed to score twice through Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom, but the Championship side could not mount a comeback.
Dowman’s brace took his Arsenal goal tally to two after he previously scored against Everton in March.
Arsenal Maintain Perfect Start
The victory means Arsenal have now won all six of their matches across competitions this season.
The Gunners reached last season’s League Cup final but lost to Manchester City. Arteta has continued to manage Dowman’s development carefully despite the teenager attracting significant attention since making his breakthrough as a 15-year-old.
His performance against Ipswich provided another indication of the young midfielder’s attacking potential.
Fulham and Brentford Also Progress
Fulham also advanced with a 3-2 victory away to Championship leaders West Ham United.
Despite making nine changes to their starting lineup, Fulham found the net through Rodrigo Muniz, Cesar Palacios and Oscar Bobb. Bobb scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute.
Brentford secured a 2-1 win at third-tier Reading, with Callum Wilson and Fabio Carvalho getting on the scoresheet.
Next League Cup Fixtures
The League Cup third round continues on Wednesday, with Manchester United hosting Brighton and Hove Albion.
Aston Villa will travel to Coventry City, while Everton will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Defending champions Manchester City will begin their third-round campaign at home against Norwich City on Thursday.
