Canada and USA Stay Unbeaten at WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage

The United States and Canada continued their winning runs on Day 3 of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage in Rockford, remaining the only unbeaten teams in the competition.
Both teams secured important victories to set up a highly anticipated showdown. The winner of their meeting on Saturday will claim the first qualification spot for the 2027 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals, which will also be held in Rockford.
Meanwhile, South Korea earned its first victory of the tournament after coming from behind to defeat Hong Kong, China.
USA Defeats Australia 10-5
The United States earned a 10-5 victory over Australia in an entertaining contest.
The Americans opened the scoring in the first inning when Kate Blunt reached base with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Naomi Ryan’s RBI hit.
Australia responded in the second inning as Leah Cornish doubled before Claire O’Sullivan drove her home to level the score.
The USA regained the lead through aggressive baserunning, with Denae Benites and Ashton Lansdell both stealing home plate. Australia answered once again in the third inning, highlighted by Cornish’s second double of the game, making it 3-3.
The turning point came in the bottom of the third. After an Australian fielding error gave the USA another opportunity, Alex Hugo doubled before Denae Benites launched a three-run home run to put the hosts firmly in control.
The United States added more runs in the fourth inning to build a comfortable lead. Australia scored twice in the fifth, but the American pitching staff closed out the game to secure the 10-5 win.
Canada Beats Mexico 12-2
Canada also remained unbeaten with a convincing 12-2 victory over Mexico.
Mexico made a strong start, scoring first in the opening inning. After a defensive error allowed Dani Leal to reach base, Camila Vargas hit a two-run home run to give Mexico an early advantage.
Canada quickly responded and took control of the game with consistent offense, eventually pulling away to secure a six-inning victory and improve to 3-0 in the tournament.
South Korea Claims First Tournament Win
Earlier in the day, South Korea recorded its first victory of the competition by rallying past Hong Kong, China.
The win keeps South Korea’s hopes alive as the group stage continues.
USA vs Canada Showdown Awaits
Attention now turns to Saturday’s marquee matchup between the United States and Canada. With both teams unbeaten, the winner will secure the first qualification berth for the 2027 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals, making it one of the most significant games of the tournament so far.
