Conor McGregor’s UFC Return Ends Early After Knee Injury as Max Holloway Wins at UFC 329

Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the UFC came to an unfortunate end on Saturday night after he suffered an apparent knee injury just over a minute into his main event bout against Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.

Competing for the first time in more than five years, McGregor started the fight aggressively by throwing a flying kick. However, he landed awkwardly on his right leg, appearing to injure his knee during the opening exchange.

Although the former two-division champion attempted to continue by throwing a few more strikes, it quickly became clear that he was unable to compete. The fight was stopped just 1 minute and 9 seconds into the opening round, giving Holloway the victory by injury stoppage.

Following the event, UFC President Dana White said the initial assessment suggested McGregor may have suffered a torn ACL, though he noted that a full medical evaluation would be needed to confirm the extent of the injury.

The result marked a disappointing comeback for McGregor, whose previous UFC appearance had taken place more than five years earlier.

Earlier on the main card, England’s Paddy Pimblett delivered one of the fastest finishes of the night. He defeated Benoit Saint Denis by first-round technical knockout in just 52 seconds after countering an early kick and securing a fight-ending submission sequence.

In another featured contest, Mario Bautista earned a unanimous decision victory over Cory Sandhagen in the bantamweight division. Bautista built momentum with effective leg kicks early in the fight before maintaining pressure throughout all three rounds. A strong offensive display late in the final round helped secure the judges’ decision.

UFC 329 featured several notable performances, but McGregor’s injury-shortened return became the biggest talking point of the evening, leaving questions about when the former champion will be able to compete again.
