Faisalabad Division Sets Wheat Cultivation Target of 1.834 Million Acres
Officials directed to ensure fertiliser, certified seed and canal water availability for farmers
FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad division has set a target of cultivating wheat across 1.834 million acres during the upcoming season, with authorities instructed to facilitate farmers and ensure timely availability of essential agricultural inputs.
The target was finalised during a meeting of the Divisional Wheat Committee chaired by Faisalabad Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh.
Officials from the relevant departments were directed to make sure that fertiliser and certified wheat seed are available to farmers at officially fixed prices. Authorities were also asked to ensure timely delivery of canal water to agricultural fields.
The commissioner stressed the need to encourage modern sowing techniques, particularly mechanical sowing and the use of super seeders, to help farmers complete cultivation efficiently.
Deputy commissioners were instructed to resolve farmers’ complaints through district-level committees within 15 days. They were also directed to submit reports regarding the provision of canal water to designated outlets.
Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said farmers who own or operate super seeders should be connected with other growers at the union council level. This, he said, would allow more farmers to benefit from the available machinery and technology.
The agriculture authorities were given a deadline of November 20 to complete the wheat cultivation target across the division.
The commissioner said the provincial government was expected to announce the wheat support price soon. He also expressed the objective of making Faisalabad division a leading wheat-producing region of Punjab.
He assured that the interests and rights of farmers would be protected and said progress on the assigned targets would be reviewed in another meeting after 15 days.
Director Agriculture Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood gave a briefing during the meeting, while representatives of the Kisan Board shared their recommendations.
Deputy commissioners from all four districts of Faisalabad division also participated in the meeting.
